Been awhile since the last time I really messed with HTML. In a class for it (again), and just having fun this time around.
Uses inline CSS and floating divs for the 2-column display. That’s it, really.

Feel free to snag the .html file as well. Code is totally free for anybody to use (since most of it is compiled from W3Schools tutorials). Just be sure to clear my name and info out of the comments and footer in the code!

Getting back into digital photography, for a class. Found a box of gorgeous African specimens we inherited from my grandmom. These two beetles together cover theme 39. Bugs in the 413 Theme Challenge.

Coffee Desktop Wallpaper

Did some dinking around with a camera, and decided to update my desktop wallpaper while I was at it.
Free for y’all to use, as a wallpaper. Think of it as a little coffee flavored apology for going so long without updating with something important.

Current format is for my widescreen monitors, 1600 x 900 px. Feel free to crop or shift it around if you need, to fit your monitor.

Was very, very bored and decided to take a few of the more interesting GaiaOnline avatars that folks put together and do some freebie avi art for them. Mutually beneficial projects, haha.

I finally get to use my new signature mark that I designed in the Portfolio Practicum course. I like it!

All of this is digital painting in Photoshop, using my own pen-and-paper sketch as reference.

Poster for a fictional performance, made for ANM 144 Print Production.

Had a LOT of fun with this one, working to the tunes of Karen O & the Kids, and they’re work on the Where the Wild Things Are soundtrack.

Not my usual thing. Dr. Seuss meets indy rock.

Band names and foot are done by hand with sharpie (!), with color and rest of the text added digitally.

274. Poison (Shakespearean Label)

Advanced Graphic Design with Chafe Hensley had me excited for the Shakespeare-themed art show, back in February (probably the only thing I enjoyed about that theme).The challenge: design a label for a Shakespearean-themed energy drink, and make it look handcrafted. I planned this to serve as that class project, a portfolio-worthy piece, as well as chalking up one more of the 413 Themes.

It took me awhile to get the mock up done. It’s difficult to print when you’ve no toner. Printer’s now loaded, and the mock up went fairly quickly (blessed be modge podge).

The label’s “brand” is reference to a chemical found in some of the most deadly plants, this particular flavor being Nightshade. Shakespeare was rather fond of poisons.

Illustrations done by tablet in Adobe Photoshop, converted into vectors in Illustrator for easier resizing. Labels assembled in Adobe Illustrator. Printed on lighly marbled paper for a more old-timey offset printing feel.

Definitely considering expanding this into a series, when I’ve the time.

Finally picking back up working on projects. This one is for Print Production, for a fictional concert. Requirements: use only black (the grey is 50% tint), no bleed, and a 3/8 gripper margin for all sides, printed 2-up (side-by-side for printing). The one on the right is the version I turned in (both sides were black-and-white for the assignment).

For kicks, just to see how it looked, replaced the 50% black with 100% cyan. That’s the version on the left.

Done completely in Adobe InDesign, no imported graphics. The bolder constructivist font is Bummer, the thinner is Avant Garde Gothic.

The Letter M

Another box for typography, this time adhering to the specs made up the week The Letter R was finished.
Bright colors aren’t really my thing, but I wanted to try out something bubbly and obnoxious, haha.

I played around with this one, having a cut out (the mid-gray) and putting in a piece of clear plastic and filling the box with blue, green, and yellow M&Ms… since we were supposed to actually put something in the box relating to the letter.

All vector work, all done in Adobe Illustrator using a free template for the box.

We’re close to wrapping up Typography 2. Here’s a fun project, a cube/box, designed using a letter. Only restriction: one side has to have a bit of body text about the letter. Design done in Adobe Illustrator.
